Explain the issue and ask for them to resolve it.

Call them 30 x on Saturday and tell them it’s an emergency.

Ok no seriously, give them a time frame and if they don’t do it take legal action

If you are somewhere like canberra, it is considered a non essential repair if you have a single stovetop element working. When we were tenants here, we breached the agent for a completely broken oven that hadn’t been repaired after 2months. The response was pretty much, “good luck with that”. Fair trading and the tenants association said we had no leg to stand on if even one stove element worked.

I suggest you check the legislation in your state and go from there.

    NB. Oven was eventually repaired.

If the oven works but is just uneven in temperature, you may just have to use an oven thermometer to check the temperature. From your post, it sounds like you already have one.

By the way Justine, how did you go with getting to Geelong (your rent post). Did it work out OK?

Just don't pay the rent as it could be a fire risk, just hope there is a cut-off switch near the oven..

Have you asked for an oven repair / replacement?

Maybe asking is all it takes.

Anything my tenant asks for I give them as long as we are all being reasonable.

If it is very old and not a fan forced oven then this is normal for an oven to be hotter on different levels.
My oven is even fan forced but there is probably a 20 degree difference between the bottom rack and the top.
I just cook accordingly as it does cook.

    Hi

As Westminster has mentioned above, it could be the characteristics of that particular oven. Have you ever used the exact same make and model of oven in the past? If the oven is a gas oven, you may be able to mention something (I won't advise exactly what!) to get them to notice the issue sooner rather than later!

    Regards,

    alicudi

Have you asked the owner/property manager for it to be fixed?

My tenants email their Property Manager when they think something might require fixing.

I moved into a rented place last July, renting out my former PPOR. Being used to a quality oven I was frustrated by a no-frills basic oven with dubious temperature regulation. Rather than ask the LL for a replacement, which might well have been refused as the existing one worked or being given the very cheapest, I asked whether I could replace it at my own expense. So instead of a Bunnings $500 special, I've got a very nice $1300 Electrolux touch control. I did get the landlord to agree to pay half the cost should my tenancy not be renewed at the end of year one, but currently there's no reason to think I won't be here for many years DV. Hopefully ten years, so that's $2.50 a week.
