I don't get this Canberra generalisation.
I've seen some pretty ordinary people in Canberra.

Yep. I remember some chick flashing her breasts at me as I drove along Northbourne Ave one year....

EDIT for clarification: It just happened to be while Summernats was on, I wasn't in the Cruise thingy! lol

I don't know about where you are but Canberra is very commonly used to refer to the politicians over here... If that's not widespread I apologise :)

Ha, being from Canberra, I get it.
Although a lot of those idiots follow John Howard's lead and live in Sydney.

I spoke with a granny last night who was complaining that it will now cost her $3.40 each time she pays her phone bill at Australia Post. I suggested she arrange it to come out of her account by direct debit. She replied she wanted to check the bill. I tried to explain she could still check her bill but not make a trip to the post office to pay it and avoid the charge. She refused that idea.

She was also complaining about the price of a stamp these days. This granny is not stupid, but is a product of her generation. She is cunning as a fox with money, but plays it dumb when it suits her. I say if she refuses to make it easy by direct debiting, then let her pay the $3.40 and make the trip each month, but stop complaining. She has options but refuses to consider them so let her pay.

She would have had the same reaction with the co-payment. She listens to 4BC talkback. Need I say more?

@wylie - these are people who grew up & lived in a time when cash was king. I recently saw a bank statement where a service provider's bill was paid on bpay. Original payment went through as $23,770.00 then a credit back into the account a few days later of $23,532.30 :0

Had it have been a cheque you would've noticed that you were overpaying x 100 not just a quick slip of the fingers on the keyboard.

Yeah but at the same time if you're going to use cheques and make everyone else's life that much harder you deserve to pay a premium, it's your choice and you're allowed that but don't expect others to not charge you for making their life more difficult.

It's like almost any other industry, the easier the job the less it costs. So if you use internet banking it costs nothing, if you want to make people have to do your job for you and then handle cheques it's only fair they should charge you for it.

(This may be a first world problem)

Taking on board you comments, it costs less to transact in cyberspace why does it not cost less when I purchase movie tickets online vs pickup at the cinema (they've got to print the tickets & provide cashier)?

...not to mention the "booking fee" they pile on top too. Don't know if they all do it, but Village Gold Glass charge an extra $5 per ticket for each online booking. Robbery. If you used a voucher or gift card and booked on line you used to get away with it, but they have now added the booking fee onto those too, so if you give someone a voucher as a gift they'll still have to pay some cash to it when they book online.

    $1 for a stamp indeed.
Have you seen their new delivery times?
They still have 'Express', now they call regular 'Priority' (which you pay extra for), and 'Regular' is like 2 days after 'Priority' now.
And I thought they made a mistake when I bought a prepaid A4 envelope the other day, $4.35.
Maybe I should start listening to 4BC...

There's a reason I said in almost all industries.

To be fair you could argue that guaranteeing a ticket and picking your seat makes it a premium service and thus a premium is justifiable but really I'm just playing devils advocate there!

now that the A$ is so much lower than it has been recently against the US$, movies dont seem to have as many cheap tickets. it's like books. My son's book is now available at US$14 (paperback). That becomes AU$25 after the ex rate and with shipping when I recently ordered a box of ten.

A few years ago I could regularly get $7:50 movie tickets for Chermside, not this past year.

    My son and I went to see Spectre at Crown a few weeks ago;

30 mins of trailers and ads. 30 minutes.:mad::mad::mad:o_O

Made us have to leave the movie approx 30 mins from the end to get to another inner-city appointment on time.

So; no cheap tickets and spiralling volumes of ads before the flick.

Thanks, but no thanks ever again, Crown.
