    Hi all,

my GF builder removed some part of the dirt that was covering the house's concrete slab and left it slightly exposed. (picture attached)
how critical it is and what's the best/safest way to fix it?

A tradie mentioned to drill some wholes in that corner it and pass a metal bar towards the ground, and then pour some concrete around the base. But I'm afraid the concrete slab cracks.

Another option I heard was to put some dirt back there but their concern was after a few rains the dirt would go away.

Appreciate any guidante in how to fix this?

    thanks!

A simple way would be just fill in that section with drainage gravel and make that section safe..

I'd be more concerned about the electricals, the sharp edge of the protective cover and the fact that it should also cover the cables horizontally

Just put some dirt back - ideally from a nearby part of the area so the soil is the same. Then stamp it down. Then lightly water it - and stamp it down again, and then add a bit more soil until it’s level.

Gravel would be fine too - if that’s the look you want. Do you want to keep grass away from the metal cover?

I'd go with dirt & grass, the metal is there to protect the conduit from the whipper snipper cord.

If the dirt washes away, more dirt & make sure the grass grows. There's no downpipe, so soil at the same level shouldn't wash away too quickly.

Thank you all for the great answers, that help me to solve this.
Any recommendation to what type of Tradie is the best to reach? is this a Landscaping gig or it's more job for a tradie?

    thanks again!

Any civil works company with a D9, 50t backhoe, 555 dozer with a 4in1 bucket, 10m³ elevating scraper, Grader, 10t sheepsfoot vibrating roller & a drag line - that should cover it.

In that case, just a cheap handy person to shovel some dirt…

Maybe get the builder to fill it in. They caused the issue.

I'd be getting the builder of the house back. What's with the slab extending what looks like 100mm past the brick face, and no edge beam?

Tottally agree but they are not taking responsability, they said it's out of the scope of the GF.
They are nightmare to work with.

You could just hold back final payment.

But note: ‘making good’ in this situation is just a few spades of earth - nothing fancy!

Why are they saying it’s outside the GF scope, exactly? Are they referring to the contract?

Are you responsible for landscaping, according to the contract?

It's backfilling part of the trench that the builder created for the works that they completed.
