A bit of a heat wave across most capital cities last couple of days!

How have you handled it? What have you had to endure? Have you managed to stay indoors? Have you or any of your belongings melted?

This is how our dog copes:

Did all the painting I could while the sun was on the other side of the house! ( before 1pm) then asked a friend with an airconditioned car to take me to buy bamboo fencing,, wrote letters, drank lemon lime and bitters 'til it was G&T time! All in all a good use of a day!

I checked the radar last weekend and got three split systems installed on Wednesday.

    (OK, it was coincidence).

Do you mean in 3 houses?
Or if 1 house wouldn't a ducted system be more cost effective?

I am in Melbourne. Cold, miserable and rainy weather. So glad I don't live here.

The apartment is actually pretty good as long as the windows are all closed, but air con anyway. Also bought dinner instead of cooking and generating heat, made frozen berry smoothie. The dog gets ice water and cooling pads

I am really good in the heat. I am a pretty heavy sweater though, so my fluid intake while riding can be up to 2.25l per hour (3 biddons). Also take salt tablets as well as mostly drinking sports drinks for electrolytes. I also only drink fluid that's room temperature (even coke) while riding as besides the burning sensation going down - it takes the body a while to warm up the fluid ready for the bloodstream so wastes precious energy!

I do love my aircon at home too, especially after hours of riding in the heat, so no expense spared in that department!

Nothing to see here in Melb.

    The usual pattern;

One day of nice weather, high teens/low 20's,
Next day; mid twenties and clouds
Next day; same but sun finally comes out and higher 20's
Next day: hotter in the early to mid 30's...but with the inevitable cool change on the way at approx 3.00pm. Arrive later than normal, so got to sit outside in warm air at dusk for a change.
Next day; cool change has arrived, back to clouds and wind and a bit of rain and high teens...again.

Maybe - that was just upstairs. But the house is always open and each room dweller likes a different temp etc. I didn't think of it to be honest, probably could have ducted into downstairs too

I made the mistake of leaving our two beagle crosses inside while we went out for dinner last night to keep them out of the heat. While we were away, one of them jumped up on the kitchen counter to claim some bread in a plastic bag, knocking the toaster onto the floor and cracking its casing. They also had an early Christmas by rummaging through the presents under the Christmas tree and consuming all things edible, namely a block of chocolate and some shortbread.

They use beagles in airports to screen for food for a very good reason - they are awesome at it. Note to self - if I am going to leave the dogs inside, make sure all accessible foodstuffs are declared, including in presents, and relocated before leaving the house!

There's educated systems that allow different temps to be set
