Went to Ephesus in Turkey (and shopping in the afternoon for rugs and leather), climbed a volcano in Sicily, Parthenon in Greece, exploring The Isle of Capri, and a few more. It was actually a 13 night cruise. Only 2 of the 14 days onboard were spent "at sea" with no port in sight. It was early November, so Off Peak prices made it cheaper by almost half. For me the actual cruise itself was an awesome place to stay while being transported to another country for the next day of being a tourist. Fit in as many stops as you can. No offence, but a 10 night cruise to stop in 2 ports doesn't appeal to me. But choose your own adventure.

Obviously if you're going to drink in a bar bringing your own bottle of spirits will be frowned upon to say the least, but a flask by the pool was acceptable. No need to hide in your cabin, except to refill the flask of course. ;) Call me un-Australian but I'm not really into going on an OS holiday to get drunk. I can do that at home whenever.

Been to both. I prefer travelling to non touristy parts especially in such popular locations as these. As other have said Ubud in Bali is fantastic, gets very busy but great for a couole of days. We met a guy in the street (plenty of those, just trust your gut) who for $50 drove us around all day to rice paddy's, waterfalls and other scenic places, yes we visited the carving places and artists etc but it was a great day, he was super knowledgeable, helpful and kind and it was just my husband and I rather than a tour group.
We spent the rest of the time in Bali down Bukit peninsula, very beautiful, check out Bingin and Balangan beaches amazing views some fantastic small locally owned accommodation options definitely more remote and less touristy. We got our Ubud guy to drive us there (2+hrs for around $20!)

As for Phuket we flew in and out, didn't stay I'm Phuket really- not our scene, we went over to the Krabi area (Railay, bit too touristy now, Tonsai and the surrounding beaches and Krabi town) from there we visited Koh Lanta, big Island we stayed as far south as possible, most tourists hang in the north. That was awesome should have stayed longer great day trips from here the further south you go the better.

    Bully for you!

As I said at the onset, 10 nights is perfect for me. Having never been on a Cruise, I'm not going to go on something substantial and spend a lot of money until I've ascertained that I actually LIKE going on a Cruise.

Would it be good to have more ports (and there's 4, not 2)? Yes, but then you've got to go for longer, which we didn't want to to. We've got other places we'll be going to later on, so this fitted in with our schedule.

Seriously! If you've got to be drinking that much, then I am sorry, but you've got a serious problem.

I don't go on holidays to get drunk!

I wasn't quoting you @skater. So no offence intended. I did look through some of the cruises on offer from an earlier post. And there was one that was 5 days or something of pure cruise life leaving from East Coast and just sailing in a circle in the ocean with NO stops. That's kind of like going overseas (no pun intended) to stay in a resort with all the same people for 5 days and not leaving the resort. Ever. You never know if you never go right? I was lucky that for me that first one was an impressive and pleasant experience that's all. I wish you the same enjoyment. :D

    Fair enough!

On that note, I do know someone who goes on Cruises just to go on Cruises. The last one they went from Sydney to Singapore and flew back home straight away, as the holiday wasn't Singapore, it was the Cruise and the access to all the all-you-can-eat food.

The 5 day one would appeal to mem because sometimes i just want to get away from australia. Eat like a king and enjoy myself.

A full overseas holiday might need at least 9 days.

But 5 i could go a few times per year

Yes. The food. Smorgasbord breakfast, and lunch, and 5 course dinners. It's is not difficult to bang on a few kg in less than 2 weeks. Most big cruise liners have gyms and spas etc. Nothing like a stroll on the deck after dinner either. ;)

    Is that right?
And your qualifications to judge are what exactly?

    Neither do I.
A cocktail an hour over the course of a day does not get me drunk.

cool, I was looking through that 14mb document 35 pages trying to read it in the fine print,
yeah that looks quite interesting, I think the $55 per day package looks good, thats still 80 aud per day, gotta drink a lot to get to that to be honest,

im a serial binge drinker, but dont think I could drink 8 drinks per day for 10 days consec

I rarely drink during normal life due to responsibilities but when on holidays I have none so I am happy to have Pina Coladas with breakfast.
    Its juice right?

The Evergreen cruise I went on last year included beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner. I'm always the last one to work out these things - I was well into the second week of the cruise before I realised the free drinks time was actually from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and from 7 till 9:30 pm, anywhere on the entire ship. Not just while in the dining room and having a meal. I often told the waiter that I'd like water when he tried offering me a selection of drinks from his tray

OMG yeah. The Long Island Iced Tea they served at Happy Hour on the Alaskan cruise was two for one, and half price because it was the Cocktail of The Day. Two of those numbers before dinner .........

The Alcohol-free-day ends at 6pm tomorrow, right?
