    Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase a holiday home on the east coast somewhere between 5 hours drive from Sydney which I can airbnb when I am not around. Where should I look at and is that something you would do?

I wouldn't. A house anywhere within a few hours drive of Sydney would pay for very many holidays to pretty much anywhere in the world. I'm not a fan of always going to the same place for holidays either. I think it's one of those things where the idea of it is better than the reality

Let us call it a weekender which can be airbnb'd when not in use.

I would want to buy in an area that can be airbnb'd most of the year. I will change my preferences based on that.

An AirBNB property that's five hours away will be very difficult to manage. You'd want it to be 1 hour away max as you'll need to regularly travel there for cleaning, restocking, etc. I'm not sure it'd be worth the effort of a five hour drive. Alternatively, you could get it managed professionally but it'll heavily eat into to your profits
