Education HIN/CHESS compared to Custodian

    Hello,

    Curious as to what are the implications of holding shares in HIN/CHESS compared to Custodian? Example is using a bank broker, or in my case belldirect, I do get issues a HIN. With using a broker such as IG, it is held in custodian.

    Below is my quick google on the topic.
    CHESS Sponsored or Custodian Model?
    Custodian definition

    In terms of difference, what does it mean when
    1. You want to sell transfer shares, such as inheritance?
    2. Is custodian same as a trust?
    3. The brokerage closes shop - such as IG.
