I got an investment property and was hoping to separate meters.

Any electricians here who can give me guidance of the process?

    Much appreciated

Are the properties two legally compliant dwellings eg house & GF or duplexes?

It may be simple if they're separate buildings but very difficult if they share wiring and circuits.

Water and gas also need to be separately metered.

    Hi Alan,

    1. What state is the property in?
    2. What type of property is it?
    3. Is there an embedded network at the scheme?

Thanks for the fast reply Michael :

    - property is in NSW
    - it is a dwelling house
    - currently not connected to anything as I recently settled.

So just a single house on a block of land - not part or in party with any other structures on the same block of land?

It is a dwelling house with a contemporary first floor addition on a single lot. There are currently 3 electrical meters. We were hoping to separate the first floor and ground floor + basement.

But want to get a general idea of the electricity metering process

Yes. Just a single dwelling house on a single lot.

Are you wanting to rent each level to (three) separate parties?

You'd have to get a sparkie out to come and have a look at the wiring, and determine which meter goes where.

Thinking of the wiring of my house (I have 3 meters too) - this will need one hell of a re-wiring to achieve something you describe.
