Hi everyone, I have 10 properties in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and although I lurked lots and posted occasionally in Somersoft, I kind of lost the passion for property for a while. 8 children, work,11 dogs, and a year travelling around Australia in a Winnebago home schooling our clan distracted me! We'd also finished accumulating, so while I've remained interested in property and grateful to have it, the intense interest that made it an all consuming hobby in years past had faded, UNTIL a recent market appraisal (not a valuation, but by a trusted RE agent who we specifically asked not to be 'optimistic' but err on the side of conservatism,) suggested that, without us even noticing, our equity has surpassed a million, and almost hit two! This was an a revelation, particularly since I was raised by a Mum on a single pension and my husband grew up in the infamous (around Newcastle) suburb of Windale. Years ago I read a book by Steven ??? (can't remember,) but something like 'From 0 to 150 Properties?' and just thought, okay, we have some equity in our PPOR (even though I didn't know what the word equity meant before I read the book!), so why not buy some properties? In Australia, even if the worst happens, you can always feed your children, send them to school, and afford some kind of roof over their heads. Given that that was my mindset, the fact that it seems to have worked, and even better, that we have amassed some wealth (if only on paper) by the ages of 44 and 46, is pretty exciting! Anyway, good to be back and see some familiar names. When I used to read Somersoft, I'd be transfixed by the stories of people further along their journey and wonder if it would ever actually happen for us. For those who are beginning, growth can and probably will happen, and before you know it, every sacrifice will have been worth it. Thanks for letting me say hi. xxx

Welcome and congratulations, you appear relatively sane/coherent for someone with that many kids.
Well done on the property front too.
    When do you sleep?

Welcome @LakeLights - appears you have an affinity for having more: houses, kids, dogs.

Nice work. Yours would be a good story to read :)

I'm curious how the cashflow is across the portfolio and where you're at now (sitting pretty, buying more, consolidating etc).

@LakeLights - congratulations on what you've achieved. True example of making a decision and applying "slight edge" every day to make it happen. Most important thing is listening to those who've done it and actually have the results.

The guy you're referring to is Steve McKnight

Does your husband have anything to say about Windale now? Gentrifying yet?

    Gday @LakeLights , welcome aboard.
That's a good entry point, quite a few people would have had that book as a start as well.
