as much as I would like Sydney to be affordable, this doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

First thoughts on reading is this does sound like the UK system (minus the incentives according to the article).

"If you set 10 per cent of housing aside for affordable houses, then the other 90 per cent will be paying for it,"

Potential to raise property prices??? and as they say potentially reduce supply if developers are put off developing in these areas? ? ?

Having seen these issues in London...

The problems start when the affordable housing tenants start trashing the place the owner occupiers end up footing the bill.

Really dumb idea...this is not going to help much...idiots in gubbermint need to realise that best way increase supply is release more and ...streamline development....and distribute infrastructure and jobs across Sydney.

This scheme - AHSEPP has already been around since 2009. It has already been demonstrated not to work unless you add NRAS

Do tenants in affordable housing trash the place at any greater rate than in any other kind of housing? I am serious. I would think that they would be so grateful for the great deal that they wouldn't dare risk eviction from their cosy deal. Does this happen in nras, ie greater risk of trash than with any other type of housing

Affordable housing is not the same as social or public housing.

    Easy tigers.

Per @Joynz 's post above - affordable housing is targeted squarely at key service personnel - Fire Fighters, Police, Nurses, Teachers, Care providers etc.

It's not designed as a shared equity scheme, FHBs, social housing etc - but sometimes there is a smaller element of this because it always creeps in.
