    Hi all,
I've just recently come across PropertyChat while trying to get my head around purchasing property and have been enjoying trawling through lots of different posts in the various forums.

We're a couple in our mid-50s (dang, how did *that* happen, I was 25 just a little bit ago), originally from the US (Colorado) and who moved to Melbourne in 2015 after 7 years on the South Island of NZ. We have a daughter just finishing Year 12 with plans to do a gap year in the US before diving into Uni.

Property-wise, we've owned in the US and NZ but have been renting in Melbourne's eastern suburbs while we figure out where we want to live (and what we can afford). Despite being a former ski instructor, I'm pretty much over cold winters and am looking forward to shifting somewhere warmer by our early 60s. The Sunshine Coast seems optimal since we don't really want to deal with crocs, stingers or monsoons :)

Since we are still US citizens, we have the "privilege" of filing US tax returns each year and dealing with the IRS, which also complicates property options. We're NZ citizens (#gotheallblacks) and AU Permanent Residents..

I'm working on some questions for the wise ones here - thanks!

    Welcome

Just the word "dang" had you pegged as being from the US ;-)

I could have gone with 'strewth' or 'bugger' :)

Thanks for the welcome @Jamie Moore - based on your posts, I suspect you'll have some thoughts about my questions (once I get them organised and posted..)

    Welcome hdb!

The Sunny Coast is lovely. Perth is also pretty warm with none of the biteys...lots of beach to choose from!

Thanks for the welcome @KateAshmor and @Jess Peletier - hopefully I can get my head above water in the next few days to post a question or two. I'd thought about Perth but my wife might put her foot down - 14 hours to the West Coast of the US is already a major haul to see family!
