    Hi all,

I have enjoyed reading PC threads for years. I have been on my property journey for over a decade and learnt a fair bit on my own as well as through buyers agents to help speed things up.

Hopefully, I can help others here, now that I have thrown in the towel at being an accountant and become a a full time property researcher and buyers agent instead.

BTW I have no regrets quitting my accounting job!

    Hi Sackie,

I'm not currently a member of REBAA, however, I have heard good things. Are you a member and if so, would you recommend joining?

    Hi Julie,

No I'm not a BA, just an investor. Actually the president of REBAA (not sure if she still is) @Jacque is on the forum. Maybe she can better answer that. From what I hear though, engaging a BA who has the membership is one way to reduce the risk of engaging a BA with conflicts of interest.

    Welcome aboard Julie.

Are you surprised at the sort of money that mt Druitt is pulling in? It’s wicked!

If a BA has conflict of interest does REBAA forbid them?

And what constitutes a conflict of interest? Is it as simple as being a sellers agent as well? Or can it be murkier?

    Hi Julie,

Was it tough becoming a BA?

It does offer some layer of DD and buyer protection.

    Just a quick snippet below:

Membership of the Real Estate Buyers’ Agents Association of Australia
If they aren’t a member, ask why not. REBAA is Australia’s only national professional association for buyer’s agents. In order to become a member, agents must go through a stringent process. Once an agent is a member, they have to adhere to a strict code of conduct.

Welcome to the forum. As a BA, what area will you be covering?

    Hi Julie
Welcome to the industry! As @Sackie has said, I was REBAA President (back in 2012-2015) and have been a longtime member. It's definitely worth checking out as membership also provides consumers an extra layer of protection in ensuring their BA is accredited, insured and experienced. Who are you working for, if you don't mind me asking?

REBAA members need to be exclusive BAs ie: they do not sell or list real estate. They only represent purchasers. All full members of REBAA also require a minimum of 2 years experience, need to be insured, appropriately licensed for their states/territories and provide references. More info here REBAA Membership | Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia (REBAA) Inc.

As for qualifying as a BA, here in NSW you can work as an "Assistant buyers agent" with a Cert of Registration under a Class 1 Licence (licensee in charge) however you cannot operate on your own as a BA until you hold a Class 1 Licence. Current requirements are the Cert IV in Real Estate Practice + Diploma of Property(Agency Management) + 3 years experience working under a LIC. It's basically a 3 year journey before you can open on your own as a BA. Requirements all changed as of March 2020. More reading here if interested

Hi @Julie Tan have you started your own agency - or are you working for someone else?
