Lost a chook presumably to the heat today going to let them have the run of the garden tomorrow to find cooler spots, and not let the dog out of my sight till she gets used to them, she’s a bit obsessed. If I wasn’t home all day to throw some water around a lot of plants would be very crisp.

Sounds like you could cook breakfast on a commodore bonnet. Ham, eggs, tomatoes. Garnished with parsley and chives.

Freeze some water bottles on hot days for small animals. A lot of my potted plants are burnt today. I moved them around last week so some aren’t sun hardened.

Yes you could! Sounds like a decent fry up! My stupid dog keeps lying in the sun every chance he gets!! Meanwhile I’m trying not to burn my feet collecting the mail.

Use the opportunity to sterilise your N95 masks by putting them on the dashboard.

Every heat wave has a silver lining - not really.

At least the temps are peaking early just after midday. It sucks when it peaks just before knock off and hubby comes home with heat stroke.

it was 39.6 at 5:48pm yesterday at my house. I made the mistake of checking Karrinyup for comparison and they had already dropped to 29 with the sea breeze!!

Wow! That’s quite a difference. I was out watering at 6.00pm and it was lovely outdoors so we must’ve got some of the sea breeze. Might be a great place to grow Frangi. Does Swan Valley get frost in winter? I’m patiently waiting for this new seedling to open, shouldn’t be too long!!

Gotta love that sea breeze. We're east coast but new ppor is 2 blocks from the ocean and 2 blocks from a major river ... cool breeze in either direction ... assuming the breeze is blowing

Should landlords be responsible for keeping tenants cool as Perth swelters through record heat?

Better Renting executive director Joel Digham said the experience of tenants like Ms Hicks had prompted a renewed push for landlords to provide minimum standards of comfort in their properties.

"Renter Researchers aims to bring out into the open what people who rent their homes are experiencing, combining data and people's stories to highlight the challenges of enduring an Australian summer in a poor-quality home," he said.

"Minimum rental standards would make it easier for people who rent to be able to afford to keep their home at a decent temperature in summer."

Ms Hicks has been tracking the temperature in her bedroom with a thermometer provided by tenancy advocacy group Better Renting for a project called Renter Researchers.

"I was struggling to sleep," she said.

Lack of air conditioning in Roebourne prison cells could breach human rights, says Aboriginal legal service

Last week temperatures soared to 50.5C in Roebourne
The Department of Justice said the installation of air conditioning for all cells at the prison was not a current infrastructure priority
The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA said the heat prisoners were enduring was a form of torture
