I read the first chapter that was widely released pre-publication, and was horrified at the dismal quality of writing.
Doesn't sound like it was written by the same author.

Thanks Jen, that was my thinking.

I've avoided it because To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books of all time, and a cynical attempt from her distant family to make money of a first draft of that book is not something I want to support.

That sums up exactly why I'm intending not to read it either. I'm also scared it would taint my memory of To Kill a Mockingbird.

That's exactly what happened to me. I wouldn't have thought that a single chapter (which I didn't even finish, it was so bad) could ruin something like another book by the same author, but for me, it did.

I have no intention of reading it despite TKAM being my favourite book. The book apparently is a first draft of TKAM, not a sequel as the publisher has tried to make out and frankly the circumstances of its publication leaves a very foul taste. I don't believe Harper Lee is that aware of what is going on and since her sister passed away last year (was her caretaker) the publisher has had no contact with her.
