@Sackie - You forgot the most important thing - a 50,000m2 shopping centre over 6 levels with many flagship stores for global brands and anchoring Scentre's investment in the CBD.

Interestingly the engineer of the tower was saying it was built to draw people back into the CBD as many shopping centres were closing down in the 60s due to regional shopping centres opening .

That was Saunders/Lowy's fault too - first a little one in Blacktown, then North Rocks, Hornsby, Parramatta, Burwood, Roselands, Miranda, Bankstown, Hurstville, Brookvale. Building regional & sub-regional shopping centres out in the 'burbs'.

Westfield had a stake in many shopping centres (either as the owner, operator or 'JV - partner) - ACCC prevented them from having their branding on too many centres due to a fear of concentration of power in the market. This didn't stop them from co-owning with Lendlease, AMP, Rodamco etc but not being the Centre Manager.

Yeah well the more attractions the better I think. I predict once covid is under control and people can travel again, well see a boom in tourism!

I was working in the CBD with a view over the site when it was being built. We didn't know what it was going to be, we just saw this gigantic pole being built - and then the canopy being built.at the bottom of the pole. When it was completed, it was lifted to the top.

I did that walk just this morning :D. Currently took a drive to Parsley Bay in vaucluse. Have you been there? Isn't it a heavenly spot! And most Sydney folks never heard of it as it's somewhat lost in an obscure part of vaucluse, hidden all the way down a massive driveway which opens up to heaven on earth

There are so many amazing hidden gems hidden up in double bay, vaucluse et al.

Partly why prices are so high here. Demand is huge. Land completely limited.

When it was completed.. yes it was the tallest observation tower.. but it's not anymore.

    Sydney Tower 305 metres tall
Sky City Auckland.. 328 metres tall.

And... imagine being up there during a strong earthquake. I shudder to think what would go through one's mind...
