Curious to know - when have you found the best time to meditate?
    e.g. morning

I've heard of meditation being described as the practice of learning how to pay attention

Morning is a good time (if you arent't groggy) as it sets a great tone of inner stillness, wellbeing and awareness for the day, though I usually do it morning and evening. Sometimes at lunch, too.

Ray Dalio (multi-billionare hedge fund manager of Bridgewater Associates) does 20 mins a day at his desk before he starts work. So does almost every single employee. Seems to work well for them.

That is exactly what it is. Mindfulness meditation is simply observation :)

Have a look at some of the writings/videos by Sam Harris and Jon Kabat-Zinn on the subject :)

It would be near impossible to get anywhere without a guide (whether audio, or a very experienced practitioner). The guided audio stuff I used was invaluable.

I might do a post down the track. Mindfulness may be helpful to some investors.

It's been powerfully beneficial to my investment stuff. Enables me to make a decision and be done with it–no worry, concern or lost sleep thinking about possible outcomes etc.

I was standing outside the national park toilet block at 6 in the morning watching the last few specks of snow fall on the frozen ground a few days ago on the QLD boarder, when I see this Man start walking towards the hot showers and join me in the line-up waiting to have a 4 minute shower i.m wearing 4 sets of thermals top and bottom and a balaclava and it's minus 2,he's wearing a t-shirt track pants and thongs, and I looked at him I said how you going and you want a jumper, all he said was Life is for Living,no matter what anyone tells you..

This reminds me of one of he experiments I conducted after returning from my first 10 day Vipassana course.

It was winter, and maybe 10 degrees outside.

My mindfulness was razor-sharp and I wanted to test of how well I could observe rather than react to sensations so I went outside in shorts and took my shirt off.

I walked around for 30 minutes.

    And didn't get goosebumps.

I wonder if someone saw me and posted about it a forum ;)

I will make a note to work on a post when I have the time. If it's helpful to a single person I'll be happy :)

Another really good starting point is Jack Kornfield 'Meditation for Beginners'. My copy came with a CD with 6 guided meditations as well as a lovely book. The meditations average about 10 minutes each so do not require too much of your time to get started - SInce I started I haven't looked back :)

Wow- that sounds so interesting - and HARD! I think I might put that on my bucket list...

Sitting my first 10 day course was the single most challenging and rewarding thing I have done.

Focusing on things out of your own control.
Not taking responsibility for your own life.

wanting to change other people. Not granting beingness to others - not allowing them to just BE becuase they are wrong - causes internal frustration. Control issues on the behaviour of other people is the number one cause of unhappiness - you are not behaving the way that is OK for me so I'm going to be codependent on your behaviour until you change.

Thinking that people are out to get you. Most people live in fear and run away from things that were not even after them - they are out to scam me, lie to me, I can't trust them - stop making it about you and be happy!
