It would have changed a lot.in 15 years. The biggest change being that it's no longer a small country town with hicks and rednecks, and this trend is almost certainly going to continue. There will also be substantially more business operating as well as higher pop growth than 15 yrs back.

Regarding suburbs, with that amount of cash, I'd look at Bulimba, Teneriffe, new farm, Ascot/Hamilton, carindale, Bardon and Saint Lucia.

We in brisbane would love to welcome your money, oops, I mean welcome expats looking for a home in Aus.

http://www.realestate.com.au/ has a good feature you can use. Try this

    1. Click on Invest Tab
    2. Select State
    3. Filter on Rental Yield (to the right)
    4. Scroll over suburbs to find the average rental yield
    5. Select areas with acceptable yields for your strategy and go from there
    6. Narrow down the areas then come back to PC and see what other investors are saying about those areas

    Cheers,
    Michael

Thanks, I'll start my research with some of those suburbs. I'm guessing it'll be good to fly in for a visit some time - a bit hard to imagine things without walking around on the ground.

I've seen a few BA recommended here so may contact them as well.

Thanks, that's very useful. I'll take a look. 6.5% to 7% yield would be nice - haven't seen that for a while in Sydney...

Also - how does investing in USA work compared to Australia these days? Appreciate any tips (I've contacted Karina from Select American Homes to start the thought process there as well.)

Hi @ebayhtl - @MTR is one of Karina's clients, and has bought a number of US properties. Check with her on the process :)
