Stupid question but is it normal for a real Estate Agent to charge GST on their commission?
and if it is so is there any part of it (eg marketing ) that is exempt?

Yes. It's a goods and services tax. They're providing a service, so is subject to GST.

It is normal but it also required that the agent puts the indicative (GST inclusive) amount of commission, marketing & expenses on the agreement as well. It is fully disclosed.
