I'd vote labor before voting the greens . And I'll never, ever vote labor.

Just comes down to what one values. Fundamentally i don't value what Labor stands for. Libs ain't perfect but best we got so far. And greens are just a big NO.

I didn't word my previous post very well. :(

What I mean to say is those on above average wages paying high/er marginal tax rates will be less incentivized to invest in property and therefore supply of rental accommodation would lessen, demand would rise for rentals and rents would increase as a result.

Speculation on my part of course, but it doesn't look promising with cuts to depreciation also.

I certainly don't see rental affordability in the future due to these measures.

After the Trust announcement today I'm experiencing Labor Pains. The contractions are getting closer together. Must be time for some home brew. That should settle things down:).

The fact that De-No Cluey views LL's and investors as some group of people that the ordinary Joe Blogs can never be part of shows how completely out of touch with average folks and general economic activity he and his Party are.

I've voted for the live in every federal election bar one and every state election bar one or 2 but I regularly vote for the greens in the Senate, particularly Scott Ludlum

Well of course that's your choice. For me not voting Greens has nothing to do with capitalism, NG etc. Very personal reasons why I will never vote for them.

Certainly not in the traditional roots ideology that's for sure

The 2 main parties seem to be ever closer

Perhaps a function of leadership by media ?

You can't be serious can you...what other worker gets 11.5% contribution based on an $185k allowance. What other worker gets a pension payable for life after 12 years service? That is nothing like a super scheme similar to the rest of us. And yes, this is just a taste of their post 2004 super. Take a look at their ill health benefits...just show me a regular worker that has such benefits.

We could get in on this. With a PChat party in the senate, helping the youngsters achieve their dreams, without relinquishing even a smashed avocado toast (so unkindly referred to by the media commentariat...), and a generous retirement package for all of us, as @Hedgy has mentioned above.

And all the meetups become pre-funded...

It's a desperate attempt to grab some votes as they lose ground to other minor parties: https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2017/07/greens-serious-trouble/

That said, I do like their plan to phase out the capital gains tax discount (providing they allow for inflation adjustment before calculating tax).

If anyone has a reasonable explanation for capital gains being taxed at a discount to income, I'd love to hear the justification.

Considering Labor has a similar housing affordability plan, you probably shouldn't write off the possibility that some of these changes take place in the not too distant future.
