Hi, does anyone know whether the Glen Eira Council in Melbourne restricts the building of granny flats and/or prohibits the renting of the existing house and granny flat to separate parties? Assume standard ~600 Sqm block, house in the front, standard driveway down the side. Granny flat gets built in what is now a large back yard. I am not particularly concerned with the detailed building requirements (set backs and what not which I can find out) but specifically wanted to know whether they prohibit renting house & granny flat to separate parties?

In Vic, a granny flat (I.e. dependent persons unit) must be removed when the dependent person moves out.

If you are not building it for a family member, then it is just a secondary dwelling and needs to comply as such - e.g. parking spaces etc.

Not sure about renting out prohibitions.
