    ...asking me to become a mortgage broker! What the hell?
    Surely this is even one step beyond cab drivers giving you property advice.

    They would have a huge database of clients so easy money for them.

    top line says it all. "partner offer". They pretty much just sold you contact information on to another company.

    At least it takes longer to become a mortgage broker than an REA

    Yup - doesn't appear to be Kogan, but another business offering this, Kogan is just facilitating the message being delivered.

    Database = Rich
    Bit of a no brainer really, just go to any decent website and they will have an opt-in amazing offer purely to grab your details. What there offering is almost always information which there system automatically sends you.
    Most of the broker sites will have calculators "e.g. How much can I borrow", enter your details and ofcourse email and expect a call within the next 10-15 and a lifetime of emails.

    That's not actually the way it works.

    EDM campaigns are quite common - the advertiser gives the mailing list owner the email copy and the mailing list owner sends it out to their list. The advertiser does NOT get access to the names of people on the list (unless they click on the links and sign up to something on the advertiser's website).

    If you look carefully at emails like this, it will have come from the mailing list owner (Kogan in this case), NOT from a third party.
