From my local paper... Ryde makes sense with other tech companies nearby and it has transport....

Think its a case of wait and see. (Sorry for the image quality)

Not saying no, however I think connectivity with public transport will still be a substantial negative for Camellia, even with the light rail as its a bit of a dead end line. Secondly there aren't really other nearby large tech companies so it would be out there alone.

Right now they are in Pyrmont and availability of public transport is of very high importance for this decision.

Parramatta City centre might be more feasible than Camellia as an option?

    Just my 2 cents.

Edit: I see there is a stage 2 planned for the Parramatta light rail to go through Camellia which will make it more useful. But.... With anything transport... I wouldn't count my chickens still I actually see some physical ground digging.

Pretty sure that don't want that sort of fibre. They probably prefer the optical type.

I hear that it is a great insulator, still can't be beaten by anything man-made.

The soil probably glows in the dark too

There is no way they will move to Ryde. Staff and clients wouldnt put up with that.

Umm, Ryde is not that far considering pyrmont wasn't/isn't really accessible by train.
Client doesn't usually go to Google, their agency maybe... sometimes.

Optus, TPG, Aristocrat, Canon, Foxtel as well as many medico-tech offices are based in the area & they still attract workers/drones.

North Sydney is a tad dead. Perhaps a bit more expensive rent compared to North Ryde which kills the deal. I worked there and one (nice) building we rented (2 levels of) cost a bomb to rent so we moved to a sh#tty building virtually next door to save the company $1mill in rent.

Tech companies compete for the best talent, in Australia it's already hard to get excellent talent as they're usually tempted to go overseas.

Add to that working in paramatta, Google, which is famed for creating great places to work, will suddenly be not nearly as appealing to work at in Sydney.

For non technical staff, again you're going to have to pay more on wages or some other benefit in order to attract say an excellent CFO or GM , accountant etc who generally would find working in paramatta to be an inferior location

Maybe. But I have to say, (in my experience in general), people working in Parramatta are nicer than people working in the city. Less "up themselves".

    Just a little bit different....

Staff being targeted are not as specialised as Google or atlassian would need,

Also, Google has been named by Forbes as best workplace in the world or America 8 times or so in last decade and Google aust has been named best Aussie workplace couple of times, as has atlassian.

Clearly they place a bucket load of importance on it, I somehow don't see a move to Western Sydney being a priority

Yeah you'd certainly get a higher % of finance douchebags and startup wannabees but doubt that would affect their decision on where to relocate

I have to say, North Ryde, whilst having a lot of tech companies, are PITA to get to work for a lot of people living in Southern/Eastern/Western Sydney. Also traffic at North Ryde/Macquarie Park is horrific during peak hours.

Now the new Sydney Metro will help after it gets extended to the city in 2024. However I think city and Redfern is still best location for attraction to most talents.

That is probably also why CBA decided to move away from major Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park offices and back to much closer to city. Traffic will get worse and not better.
