No worries Marissa. It's not cheap and you have to buy a separate grinder but according to him you won't find anything much better unless you go into the 5k+ price range.

We got the machine and a grinder as a package for a bit over 1k. Very easy to use and with a bit of practice and decent beans you can't really go wrong.

I vote for separate machines. I've had the dual (plus several in retail areas) and I was never really satisfied with the result.

I'm far happier with a really good grinder and an aeropress.

@geoffw Are you thinking the Breville machine mentioned above is a dual coffee machine + grinder? Because it's not - the "dual" refers only to the double boiler, so you can be extracting coffee and steaming milk at the same time, which many of the smaller home machines can't do (well).

Completely agree with your comment on separate grinder - wouldn't buy an all-in-one machine at all. And Aeropress rock! (Especially when you lose power in a cyclone and still need coffee each day.... yes, Yasi, I'm looking at you.)

I wasn't thinking of that. My apologies, I should have quoted- I was referring to @MTR's requirement for a machine which grinds and makes coffee.

I would highly recommend the Sunbeam Cafe Series machines. Twin thermoblock, good quality parts, and excellent value (sometimes there are package deals with a burr grinder).

I have one of these for home, and the Breville dual boiler at the office.

The Sunbeam has a tendancy to get grounds built up inside the group head, so requires consistent cleaning, but thats easy to do. I put in a new group head seal a month ago as old was perished and water running around the side of the portafilter, like new again.

Had one of these and just found it too inconsistent. Had to upgrade :)
