    hey folks

We are in the Gold Coast for 4 nights in Sept, not having been there before I'd like a heads up as to where to stay given our criteria below.

    1. walking distance to beach without crossing a main road < 500m
    2. walking distance to cafes and restaurants < 500m
    3. we are not into night clubs
    4. age group 40-50
    5. currently thinking location in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach

    TIA

Broadbeach - has all that you've listed plus is less tacky than Surfers.

Does it need to be a hotel? We're going up there in December and it worked out better to rent a house in the canals than a "decent" hotel for 5 people. More room, own pool.

    Check Stayz website.

And I have to say, you can try Airbnb. Usually well priced but very comfortable! Just look at the ratings and comments from guests to see if you feel its suitable.

We have stayed in Meriton in Broadbeach a number of times, and find it well-located and well-appointed.

+1 for Airbnb. I love it.

Some are for an entire apartment, some just for a room or two sharing a place. But I've used Airbnb in many places in Latin America. Some are duds, but most have been excellent.

Sometimes hosfels and hotels use Airbnb to advertise, but that's not always a problem. The best place I ever stayed in was k e of these. But so was the worst.

Broadbeach is good. Plenty of cheap serviced apartments to choose from.

Stayed at the Ocean Pacific Resort, Broadbeach in 2013, really enjoyed it - central to everything.

From the Meriton how far do you have to walk to get things like milk, meals and general provisions?

While Broadbeach has some great cafes and restaurants I would vote for Burleigh because that stretch of beach and the Burleigh Head national park is a really nice walk when the weather is kind. I love that part of the coast for its laid back and family friendly atmosphere.

Have stayed at the breakfree diamond beach resort in broadbeach.
    http://www.breakfree.com.au/diamond-beach/

We all liked it. close to the beach and everything. big pools and bbq areas. Cant remember the costs but im sure it wasn't to over the top. Was more a family vacation.

And short taxi ride to all the other places like restaurants, jupiters, Draculas etc etc.

I had a look at some serviced apartments and they are just as good as the fancy hotels but without the restaurants.

Has any one stayed at the Meriton or at the Mantra Sierra Grand and could comment on both in respect to:

    1. nice rooms and pool
    2. close to eateries like < 50m
    3. access to beach without being run over

    @stumpie

    Few places in burligh heads

    Or

Arbua sands at broadbeach (if you are after mid budget self contained accommodation)

    Or

Drive around when you get there... Choose a place that suits you
