A very good movie by the way. Violent in some scenes but also plenty of humour in others. Well worth seeing in my opinion. Loved the ending. Left one wondering about the final outcome.

We went to see The Darkest Hour today.

We enjoyed it. It was interesting to see the doubt that the English leaders had before WWII really involved them. One always imagined that Churchill et al were really committed to opposing Germany right from the start.

The scene with Churchill in The Underground was a bit contrived, but I guess a shorthand way of showing the processes he may have gone through.

+1 for Darkest Hour - saw it last week when on holiday in Hobart. Churchill was opposed to Hitler almost from the beginning but was something of a voice in the wilderness and an embarrassment to his own party (as brought out in the film). UK popular newspapers, the Daily Mail especially, spent much of the 1930s telling their readers what a great guy Hitler was and reporting his anti-Semitism in an uncritical way.

According to the film, the majority were interested in making peace with Hitler. 300,000 British troops were stranded at Dunkirk, and it looked as if they would not survive. Churchill himself was full of doubts.

Saw 15.17 to Paris. Odd movie about people leading dull lives who did an extraordinary thing. Interesting in that context.

Going to See 50 shades Freed. Despite the negative ratings, I enjoyed the first 2.
