Anyone seen - Carol, Kate Blanchett ?

    The big short?

The revanant - Leo DiCap. (can't locate the thread on this)

    Feedback appreciated

The revenant is a great movie. I watched it at home, but I reckon the visuals would be spectacular on the big screen.

For sure but she likes to get down and dirty with the Lo docs. I hear she puts down her employment as Pizza maker and declares a paltry 680k p/a income.

It's alright, but a bit overrated.
Still better than the Hateful 8, turned that off after about half an hour.

Loved the big short -- funny, insightful and not boring.
Hated the revanant - i felt that the movie dragged on and on

I think it depends on what you like.

Was almost like The Revenant was produced just to win Leo an Oscar, I enjoyed it but wouldn't highly rate it.

Hateful 8 I saw in 70mm, if you're a Tarantino fan, you will love it - can understand how some people wouldn't get a bit turned off though!

Hateful 8 got lots of mixed reviews, and I think most were pretty bad and disappointed with Tarantino

I've seen both. I didn't like Carol. Great vehicle for Cate Blanchet to show her acting, but other than that too unbelievable. I then read that the book was written through the eyes of the character played by Mara Rooney. That explained the elements I found jarring. It was quite sad and morose. Two stars out of five for me. One star for Cate's acting and another for depicting the 40s so well.

The Revenant is not everybody's cup of tea, but I loved it. Saw it at the cinema, where it needs to be seen. Scenery and cinematography are spectacular. It was very hard to understand Tom Hardy, who I think is fabulous. But Tom's acting surpassed Leo's (imho). He managed to convey a mean character suffering PTSD and simply trying to survive the harsh life of the mid-west (I think it was the mid-west). I love western style, early Americana, hard-scrabble movies. I also love Indian country. A bit gory, so if you don't like blood, not the movie for you. But nothing gratuitous. Four and half stars for me. Lost half a star cos Leo didn't exactly have the body of a half-starved man struggling to survive the wilderness, but more the body of a well fed, rich white dude living a life of luxury. lol.
