We have a few names on the table at the moment for our arrival in Sept. We have been making our decisions based on names we like and then what sort of nick names you could spin off.
Our first daughter is named Audrey. We we liked the older names as opposed to newer hipster names. We don't know what we are having this time round but have Oliver and Madeline ready to go.

After seeing Jaychon /Jayson (Jason), Charroynn (Sharon) and Jymie (Jamie) I with @skater on this one.

I have always loved Elisabeth for a girl.

Damn Sim - that list is impressive. Where were you when I was coming up with business names back in the day?

    Cheers

Another pet hate of mine.... people who name their children after themselves, what's that about??

    ie Jamie and Jamie Junior.

I think that's a real American thing?? Perhaps not, my husband's Christian name is the same as his fathers, he absolutely loathes it, because inevitably Jr or Snr is used... psychologically can scare you for the rest of your life:eek:

Another pet hate, people who insist on naming their children after a mother/mother in law and it is just a dog ugly name, and the child has to live with this for the rest of their live..

How would you like to have my mother's name, Immaculata, someone slit my wrist.

I know better, never did this with my children, I don't want my children cursing me over that one.

    MTR:)

We have a friend called Liz.

We only found out when her son was born that it's short for Lesbia.

That's got to be worse than Immaculata (which would perhaps not be ou of place on a Spanish speaking country).

I really like Eva or Luka for a girl - but 30 seconds after a very long and action packed labour hubby suggested Sophia (after Sophia Loren) and I didn't have the strength to argue.

The thing to remember is that she may be a judge or doctor or checkout chick or astronaut or architect or stay at home mum ... but whatever she is, the name needs to be suitable ... I just can't picture as renowned scientist called Tiffany or Crystal.

However .... friends only just announced the sex of their long wished for IVF baby and have the surname Fury ... the name choices were Dashiel (Dash) and Scarlett ... won't tell you which one they ended up with but love both of the names

I'm one of those. Real name is my dad's name, however my middle name Adrian has been used since I was born.

Absolute pain in the @r$e having to explain it and don't get me started on flight name changes etc......

I must be the only one that likes it. My mum thought I was genuinely joking....which made it even worse.

    Cheers

We stuck with classic names , though with the current generation some thing more exotic is much cooler .
