    god, here we go again.

there must be some mass exodus from the "other forum" because no one's predictions are eventuating; like there's some global conspiracy to keep people employed and economies ticking over, or something....

Also joined GS after they left the post mentioned above.

But here's my theory on why GS is reflected on the resumes of so many of the world's top central bankers.

    1. They (GS) pay shedloads and, therefore, attract the best talent (the cream attracts the top cats, so to speak) - and after these people have made tens, if not hundreds of millions or dollars (or more) during their GS careers, they then, rather than counting their money while lying on a beach, express an interest in (and are appointed to) central bank roles (which for any economist are the pinnacle of a career as they arguably the most powerful economics roles on earth).

    2. End of theory.

Personally, I'd be counting my money while lying on a beach.

You couldn't pay me enough to have a job (central banker) where just about every man in the street who can spell economics thinks they can do a better job.

Maybe it's time to become a Howard Hughes -type recluse and re balance the portfolio to invest in long life food in a bunker out the back of Nimbin central..

Somehow you get appointed. :( There was a different person elected as a Prime Minister of Australia, but somehow he got dumped. :(

Yeah. And people like me feel cheated, because we had voted for other individuals.

You need the bears just as much as you need the bulls. If everyone was always bullish and optimistic we'd all get too cocky and complacent and take stupid risks. As much as we may disagree/agree with the full on end-of-the-world bears, its perfect that these things get discussed. Makes people think about risk so they can manage the cycles with ease.

Not 'somehow'- its called politics.the other side does it as well.
Id suspect that kind of coup within parties is common worldwide if possible. At the end if the day one and only one thing counts for them above all reason- votes. Does not matter if the votes come from drug dealers or monks...thats why politicians have their rep.

    agreed.

would love to see some balance in all arguments personally.

    people are just too galvanised.

if i complain about a bearish post, i must be a permabull.

if i complain about a bullish post, i must be a permabear.

    galvanised....

No, it's not common worldwide. I wonder what will happen if they loose the election. I don't know any other country in modern times that changes it's leader almost every year. :(

Balance my friend! There are three sides to a coin, I try and sit on the edge viewing both sides. Nothing is ever black and white.
