Yes. Make sure you put about 1/3 away for tax because it's not being withheld like it would if you were an employee. But like others have said I would speak to your accountant to get all the facts.

Sounds like the illegal abn is still around. Few people just lost their abns for that.

    What industry/profession ?
    Many variables
For example, if as a small business being a single employee working solely for one entity you may be covered by their work cover/insurance, this add's up to a decent saving/cost.....
If you are not in an industry based service and don't have a one tonne rated ute you will have to keep a log book for a period to apportion deductibility.
27.5 cents in the dollar is the current tax rate.
    Safety items are 100% deductible

If you started a new job, your an employee, if you started a new business, your a contractor, and employer cannot make you look after what they are legally obliged too do, but a number of companies have done this, and very big ones, but they are breaking the law & you may be the one who is left holding the parcel when the music stops.

    I smell a rat.

I mow/garden on both sides of the fence (kinda)
Self employed with my own work, and as a contractor to another entity.
So when I send out an invoice I am responsible for my own workcover, insurance, bas, tax, superannuation, fuel, consumables, vehicle, repairs, accounting (and all the bits I have forgotten)
Thou the one entity I contract to say's they cover me, the day it goes wrong I guarantee you I AM the individual entity liable !
So yes, it has its positives and negatives.
To be honest, your turnover is not enough to justify the running costs o_O

    It says im a employee
    At the bottom it says
Your boss may also have other federal, state and territory obligations you need to meet.

Visit www.business.gov.au Link opens in new window to find out more about:

    • occupational health and safety requirements
    • payroll tax
    • wages, conditions awards and leave entitlements.

Which is confusing cos he said he didnt have to pay income tax or holidays ect thats why he wanyed my abn.
Might have to confirm that with him tomorrow.
His business partner asked do i wamt to invoice them each week or they keep track and just pay me a daily/ weekly amount.

    Now im more confused

@datto might need you If he ever takes a break ;)

Sham contracting to avoid their legal obligations from the sounds of it.

When I work under my ABN, it is for several entities over a period not solely contracting to one company (unless I have won the work under a tender).

lol....you do not know what your doing, the other guy might, just go get a normal job, even maccas will end up being more beneficial....

if you do it, your working for peanuts, if your relying on this kind of thing to be able to buy a better place in your other posts, it is a mistake, no wonder accountants wont call you back....they want no part of this.

Not being nasty, but your being taken for a ride, 25 bucks would be a min after all costs and time including admin time, you can tell they are shonks cause they think the paperwork is optional, and they will no doubt have as many cash jobs as possible....bet they don't share many of them !

Chat to your union if you are a member or Fair Work Australia about your rights.

You would need a log book of 3 months to prove that and perhaps own another car...otherwise it is apportioned, so could be the mobile phone, computer, etc., if any private use. Say you have one car only so how do you move around to shops etc....???
If you use for private use even little, then you need to apportion doesn't matter what it is and perhaps pay FBT.
If you run a genuine business than you need to find out from your accountant what your can claim for your business expense, for your profession or read up on ATO site! I don't think you really understand your role from what you post so seek professional advise!

    Nothing to be confused about.
You are an employee. As an employee you have certain rights and responsibilities. As you do not know what they are you need a union rep to help you
Google unions. I would guess ASU Australian Services Union.
