I worked was in the office all christmas/new years this year. It doesnt bother me in the slightest as Im not a 'christmas' person (well, I am, Im a christmas grinch).

I wasnt impressed with the slow down in traffic on PC though, dont you people have wifi at home?.

Everything was going swimmingly till we had a massive snow storm which forced me out of the office to do some actuall work.

    Happy new years everyone.

I work in O&G in Kazakhstan. I work a 28/28 rotation, so lucked out this year.
I am the Services Manager on a Chevron project. Basically being responable for the 'people' aspect of the project. Anything which people need (housing, food, transport, waste mgt, utilities, roads etc etc etc). With about 20,000 ppl onsite now, a snow storm puts a lot of pressure on systems and networks. Hence I have been flat out for a couple of days and had bugger all sleep last night (due to vehicles getting stuck etc).
Its stopped snowing and is just windy and cold now. But gives us a chance to catch up before the next snow (due wednesday).

Fun times... and Im only half way through the rotation.

I'm not looking forward to it. My workload will likely double/treble from this week after all my seeds sprout. Short term pain...

Nah - last year was minor repairs and reno on 5 of the cottages and landscaping before first booking in January (major reno'd number 6 over winter).

Although I am constantly painting, so who knows what I am up to when ... think it was around a month ago I was painting a feature wall in our bedroom on a 40 degree day ... but we do have aircon (thank goodness)

Its ok. Ive been over here for about 7years now - so kind of used to it. You learn to appreciate it for what it is.
Life as an expat here isnt 'real life' (we often refer to it as Narnia). Its safe(ish) you (generally)dont get shot at and you have too much spare time. Throw in the fact you earn too much and it makes for a pretty good lifestyle really.

Hope you work in an industry where you get penalty rates...?

I know I used to fight to work all public holidays for the extra penalties. Work 1 hour and get paid for 2.5.
