Unless you are a genuine follower of that religion, I personally find it offensive that you would consider obtaining a Buddhist tattoo because of your midlife crisis or just because it's the favor of the month for you. The same principles applies for people that copy tribal tattoos off the Polynesian people when it has a significant meaning and value for the people.

Why does everyone keep calling this a mid life crisis? It's a bit harsh.

Also, why is it offensive that someone sees enough beauty in something that is symbolic to others that they would choose to get it permanently marked on them?

Why? I think that is an ignorant way of looking at it. Just because you are born of a certain race or religion doesn't mean you can appreciate that of another...
Some westerners become devote monks, Muslims or Buddhists. Some leave their native country to live in another.
If that picture or symbol tattooed on you means something to you who are we to tell that person otherwise?

Can I highlight the word genuine follower? I never said it should be barred for anyone. If the intention is pure and good, by all means go all out. In this case, the OP seems to be bored and I stand with my comment on it being a favour of the month.

Sure I agree on your view and position regarding getting a tattoo and it being flavour of the month .

Everyone is calling it a mid life crisis because of the first post of the OP.

To each to their own on what someone does to their body, but the Polynesian people have symbolic meaning behind their tattoos, and it is a matter of paying the proper level of respect. Same goes for religious tattoos.

I don't expect people to have the same views as I do, but like I said to each to their own on what they like to do with their body.

I have two on my arms/wrists (am in my 20s) - wanting a couple more (less obvious ones).

Partner has four (she is 40 and one is recent, we have a matching piece).

You only live once! Try having the picture for a while on a wall so you can look and consider it.
