I used to know one. They didn't have their life together.

Makes me question how great some of their techniques are.

    Much mangled term...........

What specifically would you like a life coach to do ?

I am blessed to have mentors in different areas of my "wheel of life"

Yep, so many advertising... stuff.... Sometimes, thinking through why you want one and what you would ask them is enough.. as long as you follow through on the actions. Many times they are just people who can ask questions, then hold you accountable through regular meetings and working on your guilt conscious/knowledge that you've paid for a service so had better get something out of it. (Although I've never used one, but I would want to know what expertise/quals they have in whatever area I was wanting to improve in my like).

To make them worthwhile, it comes back to 'when the student is ready the right teacher will come'.

You have way too much experience and would be over qualified.
Most life coaches actually haven’t achieved anything themselves, but believe they could guide others to success?
They simply regurgitate all the information they read and watch without having the real life experience themselves.

Network. Surround yourself with people who have achieved what you would like to. Mentors abound.

I do not like life coaches or life coaching.
They take principles that take a lifetime to master and implement, water them down so that an average person is not too confronted with their own stuff and sell them in take away containers.

    The best life coaches:
    Get your business working
    Get your marriage working
    Get your health in order
    Get your social networks working
    Help people regularly
    Stop whinging

You develop skills to be a better person when you are confronted with the challenges to get all above working

I think the life coach industry is not much different to the personal training industry.

Do a quick course and then try and tell people what to do even though you have not built a solid foundation for your self from long term experience.

I dunno. I was thinking of coming at it from a unique angle. I could encourage self loathing. Deluxe package would include 2x abusive phone calls a week. They say you need to be unique to excel in business?

I have a coach. I meet her once a month in person for two hours. I have been doing it 4 years.

What do these "life coaches" do exactly? And at what aspects?

And how do you qualify academically? It's potentially a huge responsibility, so you'd want your coach to have a lot of life experience (and success) as well.

The funny thing is that the unemployed family next door are very religious. And it seems they see their church as their life coach. Well they got six young kids and are doing OK on Govt hand outs.

I saw them this morning and they invited me to go to church with them. I declined , saying I have to clean the BBQ and get it ready.

"Don't you eat meat on Good Friday or you'll burn in hell" they said. I said " don't worry, I'm cooking snags from coles, there's no meat in them lol"

4 years is a long time, obviously you feel comfortable with her and achieved goals with her helping you

I dont think LC are as popular as they used to be though

Anyone see a psychologist for motivation?
