Being a very private person, this would be the last thread i would be involved in,but if this helps just one person,it has done its job.Obviously i am 51,derrrrrrr(1964) I 1st married in 1989,at that stage rates were 17%,new home, wife at home, they were really hard times.Plodded on untill 1999 then called it quits and seperated,i have 2 kids i love to bits from this union.Boozed around a few years then married my 2nd wife, this lasted 9 months and we went our seperate ways,i ended up living with my parents as a 39 year old as i had a nervous breakdown and tried to commit suicide, they locked me away for a month for my own safety,I gave up the bottle of scotch a day before it killed me.Forward 14 months,i re kindled the relationship with my 2nd now divorced wife, things were better and we re married, forward 4 years we decided once again to go our own ways,6 months later she died of a brain tumour,6 weeks after being diagnosed. At this point of life i had and owned not much.3 months later my best friend, mentor,my protector and my hero died,my dad,i still cry most days as i miss him so much.Around 2009 i met my current wife ,yes i have got it right now,we pooled our money, what little we had and started buying property, ppor at 1st,then catupulted from that.I gave up smoking nearly 3 years ago and havnt had one since................i say to people who say you cant create property portfolios, take a walk in my shoes and i will prove you wrong.

Wow Jim, incredibly brave and inspiring post.

I think it will help more than one or two folks..

Giving up the drink, and smoking...the two smartest decisions you have made in your life?

Thanks for sharing, Jim. What an incredibly brave and kind gesture.

Will think of your fighting spirit when I feel overwhelmed juggling my day-to-day commitments and learning about property investment.

He's got this dream about buying some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands
    And then he'll settle down
    In some quiet little town
    And forget about everything

Good on you, Jim. What a life - so far.

You work with bees? You need to start a thread on that sometime. I went to an evening recently run by a bee bloke in Sydney. I'm going to get a hive for the backyard when I get some time. I've had chickens for 20 years, but now that everybody in the inner west has chooks I need to get bees to stay ahead. I'm hoping those new hives that make harvesting easier will be available.

There would be a story behind that nickname of yours, then.

I hope you're close to being able to do this:

    And then he'll settle down
    In some quiet little town
    And forget about everything

Good on you for sharing Jim. I can't imagine that would have been easy but for people going through similar it's always reassuring knowing you're not alone.
