    If I recall from many years ago, Rodney Rude's grandfather got so badly burnt that apparently they didn't need to <fire truck> around with a crematorium...

    I see these funeral plans as rip offs for the unsavvy older generation, as they play on guilt and fear. Must be a good profit in them as they are everywhere on daytime tv.

    Personally - cremation and then turned into a red diamond. Not cheap, but at least the grandkids can eventually say "oh *****, I dropped grandma down the drain!"

    Many older generations looked on it as a source of pride if they had paid or set aside money for their funerals. Hubby's dad has an old insurance policy in hubby's name for around $12K to pay for his funeral! He is 92.

    Centrelink exempts funeral bonds (or prepayments?) up to $10K per person from asset tests which is a further inducement.
