I bought a fridge last week. It's a great fridge, it does its job well - except that the door doesn't close if it's left ajar More than about 10cm, even if it's pushed lightly.

The fridges I've had before have all closed all the way, but I don't know if this is a fault or a design feature.

Are there fridges designed for the door to be left opened? Or could it be just an installation problem?

The guy who installed it had a look, and says that there's no problem.

    Are there adjustable feet?

Maybe raise the front height a smidge?

It may not be levelled properly, which will have this effect.

There are adjustable feet, but the installer claims that they can't be extended further.

The spirit level shows that it is level, left to right and back to front.

What is the norm for a fridge? Should the door close automatically? It would be useful to know this for when I speak to the support person.

If possible Geoff, put a pad of either a small carpet square or a thick coaster under the front feet. This should allow for the door to close unaided and also remove the chance of marking on the flooring under the fridge.

If you can go into a showroom and ask a salesperson and or check for yourself with one on show?

If our fridge door isn't closed properly it beeps continuously until someone does shut it properly. Now I am wondering if I should check the levels ...

Our fridge doesn't close properly either.

Usually caused by a hungry teenager 'shopping'.

If it's an installation issue, it may not be correctly installed in the showroom. I've seen quite a few dodgy installations. I will check, but I won't have a chance before the support person arrives.

My old fridge used to beep after one minute. This one takes three minutes, but it does get there.

So what is the norm? Do people's fridges close by default?

It's worse when they are teenagers and they bring home friends who are also hungry ...

The Mongol Hordes would not have had a hope up against hungry teenagers.

Probably user error, maybe try reading the manual or making a post on a fridge forum with a video of you attempting to close the door.

Alas since getting a new fridge my wife also seems to be having ongoing struggles closing the fridge door (if yours is also a Samsung then potentially there is a greater issue here) and there has been no signs on improvement after months of practice. If you do find the answer please inform me so I can pass on the information as I haven't had any luck correcting the problem.
Door seems to close just fine for me and I don't like Samsung products in general.

Binges or munchies also create this problem of continuous opening fridge doors.

The fridge guy has just been. Although the spirit level had seemed to indicate a level fridge, he pointed out that the top was slightly more forward than the bottom. He just adjusted the screws on the floor, underneath the front door, and it's all good.
