Haves moved into new PPOR and our almost new fridge is just a fraction too wide for the space allotted. It's 79cm wide. Space is 78cm. On left There is kitchen cabinet and on right is a load bearing wall . Any ideas? Ta

Is there also a bench-top overhanging, or is it a pantry?

With the door open have a look how thick the side wall is, if there's two sheets.

Depending on the cabinets finish and manufacture its possible the exposed side on the cabinet has a second layer on it, perhaps screwed from the inside through a sheet of melamine to the outer glossy/coloured skin.

How my pantry next to fridge is done

Yes that's it exactly there is a 2nd panel floor to top matching exterior. It could just fit if that came off...though hubby not keen to "wreck anything " in the cabinetry.

For the moment, is there somewhere else that the fridge can go while you decide on a better solution. Dining room or laundry are popular temporaries.

M guess is it wouldn't wreck anything, just removing it, place it somewhere outta the way until its time to go back on.

If not confident get someone in to do it, otherwise put that fridge elsewhere (laundry/shed) and get a smaller one for the kitchen

But fridge manufacturers state 5cm needed on either side, so that's 11cm we need - can we cut away the wall gyprock I wonder.

Or get a smaller fridge however We have a large family so need a large fridge.

How wide is the outer cabinet piece? guessing 16mm
Bit of work there to do it right/tidy etc, hard to tell without inspection, depending how long the wall is (perhaps one or two in the middle) the centre studs next to the fridge are possibly non-bearing, the ones at either end will be holding it up.

I'd be getting a new fridge. Get the right fridge for the space and sell your old one.

It's a PPOR....get it right and enjoy it. Put it down to moving costs. Fridges chew tonnes of electricity if you shoehorn them into a space....after a few power bills it should work out cheaper with a new fridge.

You'll find there will be a fridge out there that fits the space perfectly and can store lots of things with clever internal shelving etc...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the changeover cost for a new fridge a fraction smaller is going to be less than the cost of changing walls or existing cabinetry.

You need a good sized fridge for a family, but we are talking 1cm here. But check first how much room each side you need, and don't forget the space needed to swing the door.

Perhaps you can find a slightly narrower, but taller, fridge to fit the space?

Before you decide, get a quote from a cabinet maker to alter the adjoining cabinet.

    Caveat emptor. Measure twice.
