I used to post a lot on bicycles.net.au However there are some super trolls there and I got sick of it really.

    Nope, not at all.

Very occasionally Ill glance at mtbdirt.com.au (mountain biking site).

If I have a specific question, I often google preface it with 'forum' then ask the question, rather than a straight google search.

Newsgroups are so last century, but I follow uk.d-i-y which this year to date has had 70,000 posts - including a lot of dross admittedly.

I was using newsgroups at uni in 1991 and they were already old (I think it was around 1980 that Usenet started).

Or fish in a washing machine, if we're talking about Whirlpool.

This and Multiple Dads Sanctuary on FB are the only forums I'm actively involved in, and I think that is largely due to the community - more constructive than destructive.

I'm also on the mtb-oz mailing list, but that is getting less traffic, and no one on there rides anymore anyway ;)

    cheers,
    Inertia.

Might be worth trying the Sydney MTB Riders Facebook group (also at https://sydneymtb.org/ ) ... they are Sydney based, but do quite frequently organise rides up on the central coast (Ourimbah / Awaba / etc)

If we're talking cycles then Sim's MTB riders FB Group might be suitable.

@inertia - I take it that you didn't read my post about getting a new phone. (Hence my question ).

I have narrowed it down to one with a 1 1/2" screen or one with a 5MP camera. Both come with voicemail.

The only other forum I really look at is weldingweb.com ,strangely.
It's a US based forum for welders. I went there once when I had some questions on a DIY project and it's oddly transfixing. Populated mostly by rednecks who love guns and I suspect crave the opportunity or reason to shoot someone, but who are also very skilled. The stuff some of them make in their 'shops' (the US equivalent of our 'sheds') is amazing.
