Even though the mining/resources boom is supposed to be over, I'm still seeing mining shares doing well.

    Not to sure about FMG.
China is really clamping down on their emissions and the steel industry in general .
The high grade ore that RIO and BHP sell is what they want .
Lower grade stuff that FMG currently send over produces more emissions and is unwanted by Beijing

If you put 10 K down on FMG when they were 1c and sold when they hit $10 per share ( a few years later) your holding would be worth $10m.

    That magic word ...."if"

Anecdotal evidence suggests a few segments are coming back a bit.

Drill riigs are booked, airport lounges are fuller with safety vested workers, mining mags have more advertising content

If you do nothing you will be able to sit back in 10 years and think "If only I had ?"

All I know is purchasing takes one click, and all their products are in several physical locations ,and anyone that studies acquisition habits on Foxtel money know they don't always get it right..

Charles Darwin when he came back to London and first spoke at the Linnean Society in London showed everyone that would listen evolution can throw items at the wall and see what sticks and what falls unto the ground -so coming from your Mt Druitt 70's background with it's shortcomings everything can be over come with hard work a little effort and self made luck..That's the way I look at the equities markets what sticks and what falls onto the ground..

The only item i'm licensed to drive is a car,so I can't give any advice on FMG but coming from a public school grade ten dropout in the 70's like yourself you would have a lot more experience then me in equities property markets..

In my opinion FMG-depending on the entry price level plus the div's longterm is a solid investment,or this is quote from Gene Simmons..
Life is not kind or fair .I didn't make these rules.I'm just aware of them and that is what give the least intelligent power..

FMG have acknowledged the need to upgrade their product. See ASX announcement of 30 November which include changes to executive team but also this advice:

A change in marketing focus directly related to flexible operations and new markets will also lead to greater penetration in global iron ore markets. Complementing this is our target that in the future a majority of Fortescue’s production will be >60% Fe competing head to head in the higher grade markets. This strategic target will be achieved through the Firetail replacement project without losing the company’s focus on minimum mine lives of 20 years.

Disclaimer: I hold FMG - average price of $2.09 :)

Yet barely anyone was talking it up when it dropped below $2 a couple of years ago. Makes you think.
