It might be a can of worms, but what about making a forum where members can advertise items (or even properties) that they have for sale?
The added benefit could be that people are only allowed to sell commercial quantities if they're commercial forum members.

    Any thoughts?

I reckon that's a good idea but i'd limit the ability to being able to post to only forumites who have posted at least a certain number of posts - don't want it littered with one off spruiker type sprukes.

Sure people can post heaps of rubbish to get to the threshold, but they'd have to make an effort, and you'd have something to judge them by.

Yes, a classifieds section has been on my TODO list from the beginning. Will take a bit of work to set up though.

I also had a property listing section on the TODO list - but I wasn't sure how many people would find that worthwhile. I might start a poll. Won't be built in the short term - but could be a useful feature to add down the track a little.

There would definitely be limits placed on any system like this to limit spam and spruiking.

As above I think it is a good idea. Just need to avoid the Nigerian princes some how.

I'm against it. Last thing you want is people signing up, making useless posts to up their post count so they can flog some random wares.

Spludgey you're on ocau forums, you know people sign up specifically for that purpose.

Then make it only premium members can post in those forums.

Plus this is a much smaller community than OCAU, so I don't think that it will be as much of an issue.

    That might actually work.. :)
Should deter people from signing up to sell stuff if they realize they have to pay membership

It is certainly not my intention to let this happen - there will be limitations put in place to prevent people "flogging some random wares".

In other forums that I visit, they have enforceable minimum post counts (20+ posts) before you can add classifieds. This would work well here.

Real estate agents wanting to sell property wouldn't worry about a join up fee in order to advertise.

Limitations should also be in place for the number of ads placed in a given time frame. I think that was implied but just wanted to spell it out.

I think it should just be kept to property, not other stuff.

If we allowed both property listings and general classified adverts, they would be completely separate parts of the site.
