Is a real estate going to hang around while you spend a couple of hours measuring? Practise measuring by stepping things out.
For extensions and to get a ball park figure guesstimates would do the job. Plus by the time you make a pretty drawing and get a price back someone may have already bought the place.
Or find a builder that does extensions and get some ball park figures for extensions or hot box additions up stairs

The place needs far too much work to be viable, so I no longer need floor plans. I still bought a Bosch laser measurer from Masters though - $20 discount! Works a treat. Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Glad we could help, I have been considering getting one.

    Does it work well?

It's pretty nifty. I went to another inspection and someone had one of those old outdated tape measures! I sure showed him.

Had the insurance assessor in after recent hailstorm and he whipped out one of those laser measuring gadgets to measure up for new living room ceiling.

He was most impressed when I knew what it was. The things you earn on this forum!

Have you seen the updated tape measures that can mark aswell?

    QuickDraw Challenge

I rarely need to mark things with my tape measure as my handy man skills are worse than my wife's (she is a daughter of a chippy), so I wont be getting one of these but I would consider the laser ones.

I'll let you all in on one of my life hacks.....

This is one of my tape measures...
    DSC_0016.JPG

Grab a rule and measure, for me that space is just under 200mm.eg Measuring tiles are usually say 400 or 600mm,that will mean 2 or 3 hang looses!
Handy for measuring stuff at shops or any time there is a standard size and your trying to differentiate between two items. Or work out a rough measurement.

Between that and stepping it out I can get pretty accurate, takes a bit of practise to get a feel for it
