Frigging software updates! Resulted in signing me out of Google Drive and now the darn thing doesn't recognise me 'puter for backup despite me being able to sign in to Google Drive itself. Sheese.

It's cold and raining today... My automatic windscreen wipers just can't get their tempo at the right level to wipe the rain off so I can see perfectly.

The frequency of the wipers will make very little difference to the temperature.

That raises point two. I'm in the office and the AC is set to either:

    1. Blazing Inferno
    or
    2. Glacial Cavern

Kept the fire chugging over all day in anticipation of the cold front coming thru ... still not arrived so currently roasting like an old chook on the spit.

Is the issue that you're getting soft in your old age?

I was thinking that the temperature was heading in the right direction when a colleague came in with the biggest smile on his face saying "Ah, finally! I can start to chill out".

For possibly the first time I have an actual first world problem. My upcoming crypto CGT bill (only on gains realised through trading) is .... this big :(

    ss (2018-05-11 at 11.37.53).jpg

Thinking of selling some low-potential coins at a loss to generate AUD and lower the total CG; that will have to be done by the end of June obviously.

I know several people facing even bigger tax bills that are just going to play it dumb and not declare anything. Who's feeling lucky? :p

It's quite dangerous not declaring IMO.

My 3WP. A hidden gotcha sometimes in CGT. If you have any sort of government student loan, the CGT added onto your taxable income may also trigger repayments to the loan. That cost me an extra $13k the last time I sold a house, $7k this time.

Not that I ever plan on finding out the hard way... but what happens if:
    • the ATO rejects your tax return (if they know you have undeclared CG), or
    • you "forget" to report 2018 capital gains in your 2018 return, and declare them in your 2019 return instead?

Punishments (if caught) are financially very severe, involving repayment, fines and heavy interest rates.

If you genuinely omit something in one financial year, you need to go back to amend a previously submitted return. You can't postpone 2018 capital gains into 2019.

    Another car-related fwp from me:

The central screens on my Range Rover Velar weren't working this chilly morning, so I wasn't able to access the climate control settings, seat heating, demister, drive mode etc. The car had inexplicably changed to ECO mode which meant I had hardly any throttle response, but more importantly, I couldn't turn my seat heater on :( Later on the heating got too intense so I had to balance it with an open window.

I had to drive into the Canberra CBD this week for a meeting. I made the bad mistake of finishing to drive home right in the middle of peak hour.

So the drive took 22 minutes instead of the normal 20.

Remember @geoffw you're only as old as the woman you feel.

That's why Barnaby upgraded to a newer model.
