I seem to recall Friday night was family action show night - Knight rider, The A-team, MacGyver, etc.

I also recall Sunday afternoon matinee movies - often old war movies, or John Wayne, sometimes Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly musicals.

Did remotes have cords? We must have been so poor that we completely missed them before we upgraded to a big screen with a remote.

On the weekend I had to compromise and take my Range Rover up to the central coast instead of my Golf. The Rangie has better suspension to deal with the bad roads up there, but it doesn't have the autopilot functionality that the Golf has, so the drive was quite tiring.

Must be a bit of a bummer when you've got the Bentley Mulsanne (with extended wheelbase of course) is in for it's annual service.

Yes, you needed to pull the cord to get the motor on the TV started.

Then the TV would never start.

They call TV a medium because it's rare that anything is well done.

It's 5 degrees and raining. Why isn't it colder. (at least I haven't got a lift ticket for tomorrow ).

It rained buckets last weekend and I have fresh green grass out the front. Yesterday I found some dynamic lifter in the shed and went outside to sprinkle it around. I didnt realise there was a strong breeze out the front until quite a bit ended up in my face, hair and eyes

My daughter in Newcastle, who has just had her licence for four months, has never driven in heavy rain before.

It rained very heavily in Newcastle overnight and this morning.

She's OK, but she isn't sure yet about the damage caused to the axle and wheels- the brakes are barely working.

If the tyres simply don't have grip on the road... :D
If water got into the brake lines and the pedal doesn't seem to have much effect...

Water in the brakes was my first thought. However, they had been working well before the incident. The car hit the kerb in the middle of the road, which was relatively high, and ended on the other side- fortunately, with no traffic from that direction.

But she's taken it to the mechanic.

It's not a great time for her financially. Four weeks until settlement on her first house.

It is pretty horrific up here at the moment. Which is annoying as I was supposed to go camping this afternoon.

Hope she isn't too rattled. Where was the incident?

    Cheers,

Scary stuff. Fortunately, although the may have been shaken, it seems the lass wasn't injured which is the most important aspect.

    That's quite a moment! She's very lucky...

Congrats to her in advance, she should celebrate her luck and her impending purchase by buying herself a new car on finance :p

They had to discharge the car loan on her partner's car in order to allow the maximum possible finance. Plus the bank of Mum and Dad provided extra help. There's not that much fat left.

@inertia, I don't know where the incident occurred.

I figured as much (about servicing in general), I needed a devil emoji to make the sarcasm clearer :) Not much fat left anywhere anymore.

I got that, thanks ;-). But I think the parental bank will be hit up once again. Not a great time for that- they are getting a 100% loan, but the olds' bank provided the 10% deposit between exchange and settlement. The other daughter is travelling overseas and is out of money.
