The front fence of my low set timber IP has been damaged by a vehicle. I could not find the offender. I am wondering whether I should replace the current short fence with a 1.8m timber fence. I am also looking at replacing the gate which is in very poor condition. The photos are attached. Below are the 3 options I am evaluating

Option 1: replace the fence and gate $1800.
Option 2: repair the existing fence $700
Option 3: Remove the gate and fence $200

I think the advantage of replacing the fence is giving the tenant a sense of security. The house is in Woodridge, which is one of the worst suburbs in Logan. This is the second time that a car hit the fence within two years.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

What material do you think you will replace the fence with? Colorbond is expensive but far more secure than timber.

Do your tenants have a preference? Given the current fence, they may not mind if the fence is removed altogether, saving you $$$

That's not good for anyone walking past in the morning or night and walking into those roof sheets may be a problem for the title holder in Logan central..
Just have to ask ,was there a police report ,and what has your insurance said ..

Only my opinion but i would fix that very quickly ,and make it safe at what ever cost ..

Thanks.I am looking at installing a timber fence. Colorbond is more expensive and is more subject to vandalism in that area. The tenant had rent default and left the place. I am spending over $10k on repair/renovation in order to attract better tenants. I am thinking whether the place will become more attractive for tenants if I install a fence since the suburb is not very safe.

Option 4......rebuild with reinforced 200 series concrete blocks.

Why cushion a car’s impact with a flimsy fence? “You hit my fence ....I smash your bumper through your radiator and wreak havoc to your engine”.

Thanks. The tenant put up the roof sheets. Will get them removed ASAP. Insurance has $800 excess fee and it is not worth lodging a claim since the repair cost is around $800. I will call the police to find out whether there is any record of the incident.

The great thing about timber is that it’s easy to paint and doesn’t dent.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I've run through a colour bond fence before. I didn't do so well on the wooden fence.

Around here there was a short period where the nocturnal activity of choice seemed to be kicking in Colorbond fences. - usually about 2am - no vehicle needed except for doing the runner.

My vote is for @Stoffo and the Armco barrier.

I really messed this, didn't I. I wasn't thinking about cars crashing into a fence. Sorry, I mean timber gets termites, wood rot and can burn. Have you noticed public facilities like playgrounds, seating and bus shelters are replacing timber items with concrete and steel?
