I had one of those, too, but I think she made it with sherry or cooking wine. Used to sit in the fridge in old margarine containers. Classy.

I loved Cobbers (very similar to Fantales, but sold as singles, without wrapping), and Rainbow Balls.

I used to get two lollies for 1c. Geez, I feel old...........

    Haha, you're a mere youngster.

Gobbusters were two for a penny.

My mother was single for quite a long time, but she had the occasional boyfriend, and one time he came over on a Sunday to visit..he have my sister a 20c piece each to go and buy a bag of mixed lollies.

20c bought an awful lot of lollies back then...I now vaguely remember the aniseed blocks being 4 for a cent at that time...about 1966 or 67 this was.

Of course, looking back; it was a well spent 40c to get us out of the house while he and my mother could have some time alone.....;)

We used to call them licorice squares. There was a shop across the road from my Primary School. They had them @ 4 for 1c. My Dad would drop me off at school & give me 5c to spend. I truly thought I was rich one day when he gave me 2 x 2c and what he thought was a 1c piece, which was a muddy 5c piece. I got a whole 9cents of licorice squares. Yummy!

They don't make the old choo choo bars, but you can get something very similar, usually in specialty lolly stores. It's a pack of 10 (I think) squares that you can break apart. It has a clear wrapper & I think is called an Inch Bar, or similar.

I always liked chocolate more than lollies so would get the freckles and caramel swirls and white chocolate buttons. Bullets are still my favourite and the bonus is my daughter doesnt like liquorice :D
I might be too young for the licorice things everyone else is talking about but I vaguely remember Choo Choo bars being super hard and almost pulling my teeth out. I didn't like them much.
True childhood memory is dutch salted drops - not double salt though, they're a bit much.
