    There are so many crap solutions and permutations with unintended consequences.

    My personal opinion on the (very few) viable options left for the West is to assist the Northern Alliance and the previous VP, Amrullah Saleh to take control of the country (without US/Coalition troops on the ground).

    Unlike the President, he didn't flee and is a bona fide leader who's smart, moderate and has courage in spades. He's hiding out in the mountains helping to mobilise a guerilla army to take on the Taliban.

    Again this is based on the assumptions that west wants to remove the Taliban from the top dog position which is the popular narrative being given to the public. US has worked with the guerrilla fighters in the past and there is no reason they won't do it again if it served their larger interest. The unrest in the region is all the more reason for them to justify their involvement.

    The US funded and armed the Taliban to remove the Russians - going way back to the 1970s - and it's been on and off since then. It's basically a case of pick and choose your team depending on what you want to achieve at the time.

    Can only find a newsfeed facebook link - but appears the Taliban, once getting control of the airport, are not very happy at the volume of "broken" equipment (including helicopters) that the US left behind ... they were expecting smick working order guff

    Have a look at the guns they're holding up in the media posts and the cars they're also driving, Taliban never drove Humvees in the past.

    This might give you a brief overview - and then can go forward with own research - on why leaving Humvees and guns is not such an issue (and most of them belonged to the Afghan government anyhow)

    Masoud made claims on public media that it was a problem for him as it gave Taliban a clear advantage, the US will say anything because they don't want to look silly in front of the whole world, I'll bet there will be extremist groups form again and future issues with terrorist attacks, then they'll need to go back in there again.

    And now they don’t know most of whom they have airlifted;

    U.S. Struggles to Learn Who’s Who in Afghan Airlift of 124,000

    Many who were in priority list, who aided the US and allies, didn’t get to the airport because they were told it’s too dangerous and now they are still in there.

    This US administration can’t do any worse…

    Trust me ... they could've done a lot worse if the one who forced the U.S. into this poorly negotiated "deal" was overseeing the evacuation

    Interesting, and sad, video but worth watching as we must ensure we don't "look away" as time passes
