My post is to share a bit about my experience with FMT.
Late 50's and with ulcerative colitis, I had had my fill (and more) of steroids to tame the beast. As the next step for me was to have additional medication with various side-effects, in January 2016 I bravely re-made an appointment that I had cancelled in 2011 to see Prof Tom Borody at the Centre for Digestive Diseases in Five Dock NSW. I so wish I'd done this earlier.
In a nutshell, 'screened' faeces is blended with saline and transplanted into the bowel at either colonoscopy or via an enema in an attempt to supply the bowel with good bacteria while this 'ultimate probiotic' also eradicates the bad bacteria. After the first two transplants I was fortunate to have my other half participate in the process: good s--t apparently!
10 months later I feel fantastic.
If you or anyone you know is considering this therapy which I know sounds a little weird, I can assure you it is not nearly as revolting as 15 urgent trips to the loo per day to pass blood and mucus.

    Nice result, well done.

I guess there's no shortage of donors.

I don't know how I ended up here.

It's like that compulsion to pick something up and sniff it. Not sure if anyone else is like that.

Thank you for posting - you may have really helped out other PC members.

(Best to ignore the above comments from PC's 8-year old boys).

I have heard a few programs on Radio National mentioning this sort of thing recently. It is amazing how important the bacteria in your gut is as well as the colon etc.

Well done for giving it a shot.

Surprisingly I believe there is a shortage. I read about it some time ago and from memory there were a number of exclusions, such as anyone that has had antibiotics. Memory does get a bit foggy so maybe I'm wrong

Don"t worry, have heard them all. I had a gut feeling that this would lead to some creative replies.
Even found a Typo birthday card for my darling that said "I love the s--t out of you".
Donor rates are quite low due to general mental and physical health, medication use etc. In the states there are stool banks (Openbiome) where the regular donors are labelled; Winnie the Poo, Vladimir Pootin etc.
The joke is really on big pharma missing out on many, many dollars in fancy meds.

@Amaroo - I had heard about this treatment several years ago. It's just not mainstream as there's no pharmaceutical mark up.

It's part of the big picture - doctors provide medicine to bring you back to good health but should be focussed on wellness to prevent people getting I'll in the first place.

Unfortunately, there's no money in prevention unless it's for vaccines.

Good to see it worked out well, Amaroo.

It must have been a great relief to get over a chronic ailment. Well done.

@Amaroo well done for having the guts to try this treatment. ;)

I heard about this treatment years ago and the research indicates it is excellent. Those symptoms you had are nasty. Really glad to hear you are feeling better.
