I've seen people practice water saving tips - on farms or towns with a dwindling water supply during drought for instance. Using shower water to flush a toilet is common - at least, when there's enough water to shower.

The no toilet paper thing is pretty mainstream in many countries - never shake the left hand of an Arab ;) Not sure why that one made the list.

When I was a kid, Mum would run a bath and my sisters would bath first (because they were the cleanest). The Mum would use the same water, Then me and my brothers. Finally Dad would use the same water as he was the dirtiest ;).

Eight people bathed in the same little drop of water .

I recall my grandmother saying she used these to iron miners shirts in the goldfields, several on the go at once

    upload_2021-2-10_20-25-58.png

Water was scarce, so even as kids, showers were 2-3 minutes max, even when the town went onto scheme water

As a kid, I remember the town going dark at 10 or 11 PM as the power station shut down

I also recall outdoor toilets and the truck coming to take the bins

I feel like that's only the start of the story.

What did you do with the water afterwards?

I worked with a number of nationalities in my youth, for some...Left hand is for wiping your bottom, cleaning your feet and wiping your R's (you also put on and take off your shoes with your left hand), while the right hand is for eating

At primary school, the boys in Grade 7 were rostered on to empty the bins.

Yep, I had my time on the roster.

These days that would be called sexist!!!

TV was a luxury, on a good night you could watch Dr. Who in black and white if the weather conditions were right

    More importantly, we saved water.

Once the tanks were dry, it was bore water for everything!!!

Americans are pretty crazy in many different ways when you watch the various reality TV shows.

Shrink wrap the house to save wear? Such a cosy way to live - not.

I think there is a difference between being craaazy frugal, and being careful. We turn off unnecessary room lights (if no one is in the room) because to me it’s just stupid to leave it on.

Water is a precious resource in rural areas - better to use less than run out altogether!
