I don't have a trailer so delivering the pavers could be an issue. I don't like the idea of rocks because they'll get thrown through the window.

I will almost definitely put in a garden on the sides and along the front.

I'm imagining the driveway will look like a mirror image of the attached pic, except the tapered part will have a different pattern obviously.. if I paint it all grey it might look ok

Gosh @joel you did ask for cheap, I can't get someone to throw in delivery as well for nothing :)
Hire a ute from Bunnings for an afternoon and go Gumtree surfing. Also look on there for people that are selling stuff on a demolition site and see if you can go raid their plants for free as well.

Yes the driveway would look like the above picture as it will need to taper down to the single crossover at the boundary

The other option if you want to spend some money is to paint the brickwork at the front of the house.

    Salt the earth.

I've got a few properties in the streets adjacent to that one - for the most part the tenants have killed the plants or let them just deteriorate in general.

Be careful with just putting bark everywhere, if you don't invest in putting down some quality weed mat then it just ends up being a giant mess of weeds within a year around those parts. Most of the Affordable Homes renovated properties around there are suffering from this.

If I were you, I'd just give it a mow, maybe put in a garden bed on what appears to be the raised area on the right maybe.

I like Westy's idea, painting the front facade, maybe render a decorative quoin or bottom row of bricks (like AHS are doing) - makes the places look significantly better.

Not huge pictures so makes it a little harder to see, but you can see they've rendered the two tone sections and painted the rest to spruce up the properties.

An artist's impression of a basic garden around the edges.
I don't think the pavers will turn out well without spending good $.
I'll probably just level out that mound by the fence and put in a few low-maintenance plants.

@Corey Batt if I paint the bricks then won't I have to keep repainting them in the future? Would it be worth painting that odd section above the window in brick-colour instead?

Joel i reckon get your good old roundup out and spray the areas shaded brown. After 2 days get in there and water the whole lot, this will cause any remaining seeds and seedlings to grow faster then you hit it with roundup again.

Once this is done, grab your google device and find the number of the local arborist/tree lopping company and ask them if they have a truck of chips they wanna get rid of. Most of the smaller companies pay to offload a truck load of **** so often they are happy to give it away. Get em to dump it in the driveway, then get your shovel, wheelbarrow, esky and case of coopers light
    [IMG]
and start spreading that **** everywhere i shaded brown.
Don't worry about edging, just mound that multchy goodness up everywhere. If you wanna get fancy pants you can chase up some second hand red bricks or cream bricks and dig a trench along the garden edge. Whack those suckers in upright (or at an angle if your super fancy east suburbs style) and stomp the dirt back into the trench to hold em in place.
    God damn thats fancy

After that go get one of these suckers
    [IMG]
and trot your pretty little, semi tipsy face down to @Xenia's mums place. Mums love that chocolaty goodness. Next thing you do is go Viking on those plants, you raid those truckers like the free buffet on seniors day.
Put that **** in the ground and
    SHABAM!

@joel painting the bricks should last around 10yrs - a lot longer than any landscaping will :p

I realise my above post was long but seriously consider the short & long term value of having trailer/boat/van storage down the right side behind a gate

Probably the same as the ones Corey pasted above, they're in the same suburb.

Don't worry too much about the colour. There may be some mis tint tins going cheap and there isn't a huge area.

And keep side access, its a plus for car re-birthers! Plus trailers boats etc like @WestOz said.

Never mind the gardens.. the side clearance on the right side is pretty wide... is the backyard big? I'd be more interested in whacking in a second driveway and another dwelling at the back rather than spending money on vegetation. If the site can take another dwelling then that would be very nice.

Rear divisions in the area value extremely poorly - same in most of Adelaide for that matter.
