Bugger - I do acknowledge he's been "out of the box" innovative - but not a fan of Tesla and Musk

    That's cool.

I'd read about the bread tag recycling, which perhaps solved a quite small problem. He's taken that expertise to solve a much larger problem. Well done him!

As with all new technology - some will go by the wayside and, for those that succeed, the price will come down within a few years.

OMG - is there anything Industrial Hemp (not the smoking kind - sorry) can't do?

Only yesterday I was reading up on how it's converted into solid "timber" beams ... already knew it can be used as everything from luxurious sheets to building insulation and bricks ... but now ...

Far Out! Hemp Could Power Better Super-Batteries

Why are we not growing this stuff in Australia instead of water and chemical guzzling cotton?

We are but it is not very economical or enviromentally friendly. It guzzles water nutrients and nitrogen . Sucks the guts out of soil. ROI is poor @ 400/acre for the high input. Harvesting and processing facilities on top which cost millions of $ and licencing requirements on top make it barely worthwhile. All too hard and not good for soil ecology and fertiliity you need to start with fertile soil may not end with it.

Not exactly sustainable "redevelopment" but pleasantly surprised to realise ... for goodness knows how long ... that veges are being sold in every size and shape. My standard bag of carrots had big and small and bent and broken and it was a wonderful realisation

We've all read about the flammability and dangers of Lithium batteries in cars ... looks like an alternative salt option is the key to removing this threat

"The lithium salt currently being used in lithium ion batteries is lithium hexafluorophosphate, which poses a fire and safety hazard as well as toxicity," said Professor MacFarlane.

"In smaller portable devices, this risk can be partially mitigated. However, in a large battery pack, such as electric vehicle and outdoor grid scale energy storage systems, the potential hazard is much intensified. Higher voltage and power batteries are also on the drawing board but cannot use the hexafluorophosphate salt. "

In research published in Advanced Energy Materials, the chemists describe a novel lithium salt which might overcome the challenges of electrolyte design and replace the hexafluorophosphate salt.

"Our aim has been to develop safe fluoroborate salts, which are not affected even if we expose them to air,"

... and yes ... I do understand the irony of the doco being filmed in a location that took diesel fuel and steel to reach, the interviewee is wearing products made from oil origin, watching on an item to requires rare elements to be extracted from earth ...

but it is thought provoking on "how much is enough" ... and "how do we do ... ?"
