Highest market cap in a relatively small capitalized market , over weight to about 40%, of the same capital heavy companies with different names (banks) doesnt make top performing companies . Banks give very poor return on capital. Not what I would call Top investments. If you want the top companies they are in the NASDQ 100. The Top companies are innovative,The top performing companies are going into the ASX 300, by which time they have had their greatest gains and Index fund managers are mandated to buy after inflexion point and at top price. while selling other companies on the way out.

Had to look up as to what VGAD actually is. Do you know the components of the distribution?

Many moons ago I held the unlisted Vanguard version of VGAD. Made some money (not a great amount) but it was hard work and the distributions were erratic to say the least. Decided not to get directly involved in hedged products again.

Last time I looked VAS allocation to financial services was less than 30%. So where does the 40% come from?

My comment was very tongue in cheek - VGAD distributions are very erratic and a pain come tax time. I haven't checked the components of the distribution as I'm trying to stop being so obsessive about investing aspects I have no control over. Come tax time i'll download the info, update my spreadsheets and be done with it for another year. I blame you for making me peek at it :).

Like I said, I don't have the skill to pick the "top performing companies".

I also didn't say VAS was my only investment.

    I'll gladly accept the responsibility.....................

......and then shrug it off as it's not my problem.

    :D

It's a problem I'm getting better with! No more searching through company reports for forecasts or trying to figure out what's going in and out of the index. So much effort and time wasted in the past for no purpose other than confusing myself and making me question my investing plan.... the less I look the better I feel and the better my outcomes will be.
